About the Author

Gonsalvo of Spain (ca. 1255-1313)

From Lugo in Galicia, he entered the Friars Minor and taught at Paris, becoming regent master there (1302-03), Minister Provincial of Santiago de Compostela and Minister General (1304). He encouraged John Duns Scotus, appointing him as his successor as regent master at Paris (1304). We have his works on metaphysics, Disputed Questions and Quodlibets, as well as his comments on the Franciscan Rule and catalogues of the Order's ministers general and cardinal protectors.
